Police warning after Spilsby & Horncastle thefts

Police have warned shopkeepers to watch out for potential distraction thefts, after two incidents in the Wolds in recent days.

The thefts occurred in Spilsby and Horncastle and involved shopkeepers being distracted or moved away from the cash register while someone stole money from the till.

PC Andrew Price said: “Please may I advise all shopkeepers and alike to remain vigilant and be mindful of these types of offences. Consider the location of your cash register and any security around it - such as CCTV or keeping the register locked whilst away from it.

“It appeared that the incident in Horncastle happened when one person distracted the member of staff whilst another stole the money.

“If anyone comes into your shop and appears to be acting suspiciously, try to record as much information about them as possible,” he added.
