Police were called and the driver, Ivanov was arrested after providing a positive breath test.

She said he provided a blood sample because a health condition prevented him giving breath, which gave a reading of 184 milligrams of alcohol in his blood, the legal limit being 80.

Mitigating, Daven Naghen said Ivanov had been celebrating because he had just been given a full time contract at work, which he would probably now lose because he would be losing his licence.

He was banned from driving for 20 months but was offered the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course which nwill reduce the period of the ban by 20 weeks.

He was also fined £325 and ordered to pay £119 in court costs and charges.
