RAF Coningsby Welcomes Lincolnshire Police Deputy Chief Constable and Area Commander

DCC Knighton, who transferred from Derbyshire Constabulary to Lincolnshire Police early this year, was given the behind the scenes tour of the Station including a tour of a typhoon jet and the chance to try his hand at flying one in the simulator.

The RAF Police and Lincolnshire Police have an excellent long standing relationship, with each force offering the other support and specialist advice to enhance outputs and protect Service interest and local community.

In many areas such as Coningsby, the two forces offer a joint policing service with local PCSO Ali Evans and Cpl Jamie Barstow running joint policing clinics.

Members of the RAFP are often embedded with specialist Lincolnshire Police teams to develop their skills and gain a greater understanding of their role before bringing these enhanced skills back to the RAF Police.

As well as familiarising DCC Knighton with the unique role and responsibilities of RAF Coningsby, it was an opportunity for DCC Knighton and Wg Cdr Russ Foster-Jones, OC 1 Police Wg, to formally sign a Memorandum of Understanding agreeing to the use of Lincolnshire Police’s custody facilities, meaning Airmen arrested for service offences may soon find themselves in civilian police station cells.

The agreement is the first formalised agreement of its kind for the RAF and it is hoped will set the tone for further agreements across the UK.
