Sergeant speeding

AN ARMY sergeant from Retford narrowly escaped being banned from driving after he was caught speeding by police.

Martyn Clarkson, 29, from Town Street, Sutton, was clocked doing 84 mph in a 50 limit along the A631 towards Gainsborough on the afternoon of 28th January.

The court heard how the incident happened on the same day he and his wife celebrated their anniversary in Lincoln.

Andrew Osborne, defending, said his client would lose his position in the army if he were banned: “He is soon to be deployed to Afghanistan and would be required to drive military vehicles.”

Chair of the Bench Alan Fiddler said it was ‘reckless’ driving.

Clarkson was fined £550 and six penalty points put on his licence.
