Skegness man jailed for multiple shop thefts
A Skegness inspector has pledged to continue taking robust action against shoplifters following the jailing of a local man for multiple thefts.
Billy Appleyard, 28, of Tennyson Green, was sentenced at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on January 9 to 12 weeks in prison after being found guilty of nine counts of shop theft across Skegness last December.
Lincolnshire Police has reported that he was also ordered to pay £824.88 in compensation and issued a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning him from entering all retail premises in the town for two years, with the sole exception of Iceland on Berry Way.
Following the hearing, Insp Jacky Evans said: "Shop theft is not a victimless crime – it impacts local businesses, staff, and the wider community.

" We know how frustrating and costly these offences can be, and we want to reassure residents and retailers that we take this issue seriously.
"Our officers work closely with partners to identify offenders and bring them to justice, and we will continue to take robust action against those who persist in committing these crimes."
Appleyard had been wanted following a series of reported thefts at supermarkets and retail outlets across Skegness in December last year. Police arrested him on January 8 at Morrisons thanks to close work with partner organisations.
