Jake Slawson, 19, of Saxby Avenue, who admitted the offence, was stopped by police when driving his Audi car in Wilford Grove at 5pm on June 10.

Prosecuting at Boston Magistrates Court on Thursday, Shelley Wilson said he appeared to the officer to be lethargic with eyes glazed and a smell of cannabis.

She said a positive drugs wipe resulted in a reading of 2.8 microgrammes of cannabis in his bloodstream. The legal limit is 2mcg.

Mitigating, Helen Coney said Slawson did not intentionally go out to commit the offence but his passenger had been smoking cannabis and he believed he had inhaled some of that smoke.

Miss Coney said his driving ban would have an impact on him as his employer had told him he would have to be demoted if he did not have a licence.

Slawson was banned from driving for a year and ordered to pay a fine of £240 and £119 in court costs and charges.
