Sleaford MP '˜saddened' by Westminster terror attack

Sleaford and North Hykeham MP Dr Caroline Johnson has said she is 'deeply saddened' by yesterday's terrorist attack on Westminster.

The MP said last night (Wednesday) on her Twitter feed: “Deeply saddened by today’s events in Westminster. My thoughts and prayers this evening are with the victims and their loved ones.”

Four people have died in the Westminster terror attack including the police officer, identified by Scotland Yard as PC Keith Palmer, who was stabbed, and his attacker.

A 4x4 struck a number of people on Westminster Bridge including three police officers on their way back from a commendation ceremony at around 2.45pm. The car then crashed near to Parliament and then one man, armed with a knife, continued the attack and tried to enter Parliament. Police officer, Pc Keith Palmer, protecting Parliament was stabbed. He, along with his attacker, who was shot by police, died along with two others hit by the car. Some 20 people have been injured and treated at nearby hospitals.

Seven arrests have been made in raids in London, Birmingham and elsewhere, according to police.

Ch Insp Jim Tyner, who is responsible for the Kesteven area added simply: “Officer down - my heart goes out to colleagues and family.”

PC Jimmy Conway‏ of Sleaford Police tweeted: “We’ve lost one of our own today. Thoughts with those who lost their lives today and 999 services working in #Westminster.”

He added: “I’m fortunate to be able to bath my kid and tuck her in to bed tonight before I leave for work. I’m one of the lucky ones.”
