The victim had been involved in a previous incident after leaving the Piranha nightclub in the early hours of the morning before making his way to the Market Place.

Tony Stanford, prosecuting, told Lincoln Crown Court last Monday that the victim then encountered the group of men involved in the earlier incident and challenged one of them to a one-on-one fight believing he was going to be attacked.

Mr Stanford said: “The next thing he remembers is waking up covered in blood.

“He had a cut to his nose, a bruise to his left eye and a fracture of the nasal bone.

“Eye-witnesses saw up to four males involved in the attack on him. They say he was punched and kicked and then kicked while on the floor.”

Mr Stanford said that during the attack Sentis Cernenoks delivered a kick and another man, who received a police caution, stamped on the victim’s head.

He said: “Cernenoks must have delivered a kick with some force to the victim’s head as blood was found on his shoes and a piece of skin.”

Cernenoks, 28, Portland Street, Boston, admitted a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm as a result of the incident in February of last year.

He was given a 12-month jail sentence suspended for two years with 200 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay £600 compensation to the victim and £600 towards prosecution costs.

Michael Cranmer-Brown, in mitigation, said that Cernenoks had no previous convictions and has always worked since arriving in the UK three years ago.

“This is completely out of character for him,” he said.

He said that Cernenoks had acted as a peacemaker during the initial incident outside the club but then got involved when events moved to the Market Place.
