Cameron Sloan, who is now 18 but was 17 at the time, of Church Road North, Skegness admitted assaulting PC Jared Brereton on August 27 last year in Skegness.

Prosecuting, Paul Wood said the officer was called to Church Road after reports of a woman screaming.

He said the officer got out of his car and found Sloan and his girlfriend there and went up to them.

Sloan asked him, “What are you doing”, and when the officer told him he had been called because of a disturbance between him and his girlfriend, Sloan said: “Nothing to do with you. F*** off.”

Mr Wood said Sloan was drunk and as the woman walked towards the police car, he stepped between her and the officer.

He said the officer gently pushed Sloan back and told him to 'Back off', at which Sloan punched him in the face.

Mr Wood said the officer had to pepper spray Sloan and he was told to get down on the ground, which he did, and the officer called for assistance.

He said the officer suffered pain and blurred vision.

Sloan later said that he had been arguing with his girlfriend and that he had punched the officer because he felt threatened.

Mitigating, Saleem Khan said Sloan accepted the case but he had instinctively lashed out when an arm was placed on him.

He said Sloan had felt aggrieved as he thought he had done nothing wrong.

He said Sloan had no criminal history and had been only 17 at the time.

The magistrates said they had taken account of his age at the time and fined him £600 and ordered him to pay £150 compensation to the officer and £145 in court costs and charges.
