Two Boston shoplifters sentenced in court - jail term for one, shop bans for both

Two men from Boston have been sentenced in court for multiple shoplifting offences, with one receiving a prison term and both being banned from a swathe of stores.

Craig Revel, 37, of Jubilee Avenue, Boston, appeared at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (April 25), while Brian Dockerty, 57, of Marsh Lane, Boston, appeared at the same court on April 16.

Revel pleaded guilty to five counts of shop theft in the Boston area over a five-week period between March 16 and April 20, Lincolnshire Police said.

He was sentenced to 10 weeks’ imprisonment – two weeks for each offence. He also had a 16-week suspended sentence against him activated in full, taking his total custodial term to 26 weeks.

In addition, he was ordered to pay £150 compensation and was handed a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). The conditions of the CBO prevent him from entering any retail premises in the borough of Boston, with the exception of two named stores, police said.

On his court date, Dockerty pleaded guilty to three counts of theft from Boston stores between March 14 and 23.

He was handed a variation to an existing CBO, which had stipulations on Skegness stores. With the exception of two shops and pharmacies attached to a medical centre, Dockerty is not permitted to enter retail stores in Boston or Skegness.

Boston’s Neighbourhood Policing Team said it would continue to seek CBOs to tackle persistent anti-social behaviour in the area.

Community Beat Manager PC Pratt said: “CBOs send a clear message to those who repeatedly cause harm and disruption across our neighbourhood.

“Persistent offenders have a real impact on people’s quality of life, and these orders give us strong powers to protect residents and businesses.

“With the use of these CBOs, coupled with the swift and proactive work of our Response officers to apprehend such offenders, we’re seeing increased confidence from members of the local community who’ve told us they feel safer knowing action has been taken against these persistent offenders.

“We will continue to use every tool available to us, working closely with partners, to challenge anti social behaviour and make it clear that it will not be tolerated.”
