As reported by the Journal online earlier this week, police issued a warning to take care when using ATM machines after several were found to have devices attached which prevented money being issued.

Today, it was confirmed that an ATM at the NatWest bank in Grantham and machines at NatWest and the Post Office in Sleaford were targeted.

A Lincolnsire Police spokesman said: “The device was not a card reader, but a crude strip of metal to prevent the money coming out.

“Once the victim walked away the offender would return and retrieve the money, replacing the metal strip.”

The spokesman added: “Always exercise caution if you think that an ATM may have been tampered with in any way.

“Do not attempt to draw out cash.”
