Police say they do not believe the incident to be terrorist related, but are still carrying out investigations.

Superintendent Steve Knubley said: "Detectives carried out a search warrant at a property this morning at 8am following information that potentially explosive compounds could be at the address.

“On searching the address, detectives discovered what is believed to be an improvised explosive device. Further investigation is required, but we are not treating the incident as terrorism related at this time.

“A 65-year-old man has been arrested under Section 4 of the Explosive Substance Act 1883 and has been taken into custody.

“We are now working with Explosive Ordnance Disposal to safely remove the device from the property.

“This work may require some local residents to vacate their properties as a precaution so we do apologise for any inconvenience caused."

In a tweet this afternoon, Boston Police said they "have had to widen our cordon at the incident on Margaret Drive. It is still safe to get your children from school - please approach from Spilsby Road only, for both primary and secondary."

The nearby schools are Tower Academy, Jonn Fielding School, Haven High Academy Tollfield Campus, and Boston St Mary's.
