Joanna Paulina Chicha, 34, of Monteith Close, who admitted driving with excess alcohol and driving alone with only a provisional licence, crashed into the roundabout at 11.30pm on January 8 and told police she had had an argument at home and had needed to get out and 'clear her head', Boston Magistrates have been told.

Marie Stace, prosecuting, said she gave a positive breath test with a reading of 71 microgrammes of alcohol in her breath, more than twice the legal limit of 35.

Beris Brickles, mitigating, said Chicha, who had no previous convictions, had suffered a miscarriage just three weeks earlier and that this was still preying on her mind at the time.

He said she had gone to see a friend to talk things over with her because her partner wouldn't, but her friend had been out and so she decided to drive down the A16 and 'deliberately' drove in the middle of the road and into the roundabout.

“The accident was deliberate on her behalf and not poor driving,” he said.

The magistrates banned her from driving for 20 months but offered her the drink drivers' rehabilitation course, which will reduce the period of the ban by 20 weeks.

She was also fined £300 and ordered to pay £117 in court costs and charges.
