Cubs cooking up a storm kitchen

Third Gainsborough Cubs cooked up a storm, treating parents to their speciality spaghetti bolognese and chicken curry.

It was all for their Home Help badge, for which they must perform a variety of tasks which are useful around the home.

“The cubs had to set and dress the tables, and cook and serve a meal for their parents,” said Caroline Carnell, Baloo at Third Gainsborough Cubs.

And they had a helping hand in the kitchen from Streat Cafe chef Ian Mills, who used to be a Third Gainsborough Cub himself.

“The feedback from the parents was great, they all really enjoyed the food and made a donation towards the group as well,” said Caroline.

“It’s good to get them involved, and all 11 cubs had parents there except one who was ill.”

But it wasn’t just their mums and dads the cubs had to impress, the District Commissioner was also a guest at the table.

“I was amazed by how calm everyone stayed, they were so relaxed and well behaved,” said Caroline.

The cooking task taught the children about responsibility, time management, food hygiene and most importantly doing good deeds for other people.
