Cyclist dies in New Year's Eve road tragedy

A cyclist has died after he was involved in a collision with a car late on New Year’s Eve.

The 52-year-old man suffered serious injuries in the crash, which happened on the Boardsides in Boston.

A man aged 30 who was in the Ford Tourneo involved in the collision was arrested and has been released under investigation.

A 35-year-old woman who was also in the vehicle was also arrested, but released with no further action.

The incident happened at around 9.15pm on the Boardsides near to the A17.

The cyclist was travelling in the direction of the A17 when he was involved in a collision with a silver Ford Tourneo, Lincolnshire Police said in a statement.

Police initially appealed for help tracking down relatives of the cyclist, but were able to trace them after the appeal was widely shared on New Year’s Day.

Anyone who saw the cyclist on New Year’s Eve or who captured any dashcam footage of him is asked to contact the police on 101, quoting incident 426 of 31/12/2020.
