Cyclist killed in A1 lorry crash

A CYCLIST has been killed in a crash with a lorry on the A1 near Blyth.

The 43-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and an investigation is underway.

Police said a heavy goods vehicle had collided with the bicycle on the southbound carriageway, around two miles south of Blyth.

It happened just before 8.55am this morning, Sunday 18th March 2012.

The carriageway remains closed this afternoon from Blyth roundabout, to allow investigations to take place.

Diversions are in operation through Blyth Village, and police do not know how long the road will remain closed.

No arrests have been made but Notts Police's crash investigation unit is appealing for witnesses.
