A town-based working group has been campaigning for the land to be set aside for community use.

The group is chaired by county councillor Bill Aron who believes The Wong could be run alongside similar lines to Stanhope Hall – as a ‘community amenity.’

However, The Wong – an open green space including a car park – is owned by East Lindsey District Council.

Talks between the working group and ELDC have failed to produce an agreement with both ‘sides’ often blaming each other for various
issues.

Now, it has been revealed ELDC will not make a decision until a ‘full valuation’ of The Wong is carried out next April.

It has been suggested ELDC favours selling off part of the site for housing, before handing over a section of land as a community amenity.

Horncastle district councillor Richard Avison has called for renewed talks between the group and ELDC.
