Personnel from around the station gathered in the college’s Rotunda for the occasion last Friday.

Air Cdre Luck has been the college’s commanding officer for almost three years.

It is a post which sees the holder act as the senior RAF officer at the college, with responsibility for all the station and its personnel.

In keeping with tradition, the commandant’s wife, Sara Luck, turned the last screw to secure his photograph to the wall of the college, where it will now stay on display, alongside pictures of all previous commandants.

On his departure, Air Cdre Luck said: “It has been a privilege to have led such a diverse collection of talented people.

“Their dedication and determination to deliver has been humbling.”

He added: “I am grateful to all for their loyalty and support, and I wish everyone continuing success.”

Air Cdre Luck hands over command of the college to Air Cdre Peter Squires, who comes from a background as a Harrier and Hawk pilot.

He joins RAF College Cranwell from the Royal College of Defence Studies.

He is married to Clare and has three children.
