Poppy Appeal reaches £21,650

The money has been raised since the appeal’s launch in October, with the majority collected in the two weeks before Armistice Day on November 11.

At a recent meeting of the Skegness branch of the RBL, members asked for their thanks to be passed on to the public and local businesses for their efforts so far in raising the amount.

A spokesman for the branch said: “Special thanks go to Karen Ward, Sheila Annibal and Shirley Barrick, who with the assistance of Frank Wood and Son’s funeral directors, delivered and collected all the individual collection boxes to all the businesses in and around Skegness.

Thanks were also expressed to Hildred’s Centre, Lidl, Morrisons and Tesco for allowing them to set up collection stalls, and staff and cadets of the Air Training Corps and the Army Cadets for “their valiant efforts in street collections on the Saturdays before Armistice Day”.

The Skegness branch will carry on raising money for the Poppy Appeal thoughout the year.

Some of the annual events planned include a raffle night at Richmond’s Caravan Park in August and a race night in the Ex Servicemen’s Club.
