Derbys: Firefighters announce Christmas strikes

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue has announced that its Fire Brigade Union members will be taking further strike action over the Christmas and New Year period.

Union members will be on strike on Christmas Eve from 7pm until midnight, on New Year’s Eve from 6.30pm unil 12.30am and on 3rd January from 6.30am to 8.30am.

During times of industrial action, firefighters will continue to provide a 999 emergency response service at a reduced level.

And the service is once again calling upon Derbyshire communities to take extra care during this and any subsequent periods of industrial action.

Communities are asked to provide the first wall of defence, protecting their loved ones from the risks of fire and take responsibility for their own safety.

Area manager Gavin Tomlinson said: “We will still provide a 999 service but once again we are asking members of the public to take extra steps to reduce the risk of a fire breaking out in their home and take extra care on the roads.”
