Costain Serco – a joint venture of the two companies - is setting up at Derbyshire County Council’s Markham Vale site, adjacent to junction 29A of the M1, while they carry out motorway work for the Highways Agency.

Much of the work on the two-year project, which is still subject to statutory processes and contract award, is expected to be delivered through locally-recruited staff and suppliers.

It will bring opportunities at Markham Vale for apprentices, plant operators, foremen and civil engineers.

Around 500 new jobs have been announced for Markham Vale during the last year.

Coun Joan Dixon, the council’s cabinet member for jobs, economy and transport said: “It is great news that Costain Serco is setting up a site office at Markham Vale and with it bringing hundreds of job opportunities.”
