Derbyshire County Council’s library service made a successful application the Publishers Association and Society of Chief Librarians to become one of only four areas in the country to be part of the trial.

Borrowers in these four areas will have access to more than 1,000 titles which are not currently available in the year long pilot scheme. The aim is to carry out research into the impact of eBook lending in public libraries on authors, publishers and on the library service so a suitable model can be rolled out nationwide.

Coun Ellie Wilcox, the council’s deputy cabinet member for health and communities said: “Our eBooks service is growing in popularity month by month and this extra choice of titles will make it even more attractive and convenient.”
