Dib-dib-dib - it's a record year for local Scouts

The Sleaford Scout District has seen a five per cent increase during the last 12 months.

The 11 groups which form the district now boast more than 850 members.

However, the group admits it is a victim of its own success and has more than 50 youngsters waiting to join.

To help ease the problem, a new group is being launched in Bardney.

Ian Kingdom, District Commissioner said: “Scouting is more popular than ever, this growth in numbers is great to see.

“However, our biggest failing is our success - we currently have over 50 young people on waiting lists desperate to Scout but we don’t have space”.

Adam Jacklin, Deputy District Commissioner, added: “We are working to reduce these waiting lists by opening new sections and a new group in Bardney.

“However, this is dependent on recruiting more adult volunteers to support and lead activities.”

Mr Jacklin thanked the volunteers, saying the popularity of scouting would not happen ‘without their time, enthusiasm and energy’.

Officials say the growth is down to scouting providing fun, exciting and adventurous activities for young people aged from 6-25.
