Dinnington: Exhibition in the town to mark the centenary of the start of WWI

On Saturday, 13th September, the church is hosting an exhibition of memorabilia loaned by local people.

This will include medals, photos, letters and postcards from the Front.

A book remembering the men who are named on the village’s war memorial has also been compiled.

It give the details of the men’s lives before they went to war, as well as their war service.

St Leonard’s church is not the only venue in the town to be marking the centenary.

At the Lyric Theatre there will be an exhibition looking at the war in its wider context with particular reference to the York and Lancashire regiment which many local men joined.

Both venues will be free to enter from 10am to 3pm on the day.

There will be a wreath laying ceremony, organised by the British Legion, at the cenotaph on Laughton Road.

Those wishing to attend or part of the event should gather in Coronation Park at 11.45am ahead of a short ceremony at 12noon.
