Dinnington: Jenny and Tom visit care home to talk about receiving Maundy money

Friends of Waterside Grange Care Home came to give a talk about their experience of recieving Maundy Money from the Queen, pictured areTom Staniforth and Jenny Holland

The Queen visited Sheffield on Thursday 2nd April and handed out money to 89 men and 89 women.

Jenny Holland, whose husband is a resident at Waterside Grange, and former solider Tom Staniforth, 92, were both lucky enough to receive the money and came to the home to talk to residents about their day.

A spokeswoman for the care home said: “Jenny and Tom are volunteer speakers at our care home and fit us into their busy schedules to attend coffee mornings and afternoon teas to talk to us about many varied topics.”

“Today it is our turn to say how privileged we are that they joined us to share their memories of such a memorable day.”

“We cannot thank them enough for giving up their time and being here for us.”

Jenny said: “We had a bit of a shock when we received the letter.”

“I opened it with some fear and trembling and I opened it to discover that it said the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were coming to Sheffield to distribute Maundy Money.”
