Discgarded cigarette sparks drain blaze
A FIRE in a drain on Bridge Street, Gainsborough last Wednesday may have been caused by a discarded cigarette.
Passing pedestrians skirted around the smoking duct near to the car park between Hickman Street and Silver Street.
Firefighters from Gainsborough station doused the flames by lowering a water hose beneath the road. They believed the cause was a discarded cigarette igniting a build up of dry leaves.
The recent warm weather had played its part. The incident caused a minor disruption to the flow of traffic.
