Meet the brewer - There is the chance to meet Martin Cullimore, head brewer from Bateman’s Brewery, at the Cross Roads Inn on Tuesday, March 15.

He will be introducing people to many different beers at the Meet the Brewer Night, hosted by landlord Neil.

Gardeners - There was a good turnout of members and friends for the recent meeting of the Barkwith and District Gardeners’ Association and they were pleased to welcome seven more members to the evening.

Speaker Rob Potterton began by giving a brief history of the Potterton’s Nursery in Nettleton, which was started by his parents in 1971.

He continued with a explanation of the progress and expansion made in the intervening years to become the successful and award-winning business it is today.

His advice on ideal growing conditions, including situations and soils for various plants, was much appreciated and he was thanked for sharing his time and expertise with members.

The best exhibit in the flower of the month competition was by Les Robinson.

There was an invitation from Woodhall Spa Gardening Club to its April meeting, when the well-known Bob Flowerdew will give advice on No Work Gardening, which should appeal to many.

Les Robinson gave details of the programme of coach trips and holidays planned for the year, beginning with a visit to Anglesey Abbey to see and admire the carpets of snowdrops in bloom in what is an unusually early spring.

He is also taking names of those wishing to attend the annual dinner at the Heneage Arms and a visit to the Riverhead Theatre in Louth in May to see Sister Act.

Wragby Dove Park Bowls Club’s annual dinner and awards evening was held at the Buzz Stop at the Beehive Business Park at Rand.

The awards were presented by Roy Shuttleworth, with his wife Margaret, to triples winners John Janney, Richard Lenton and Ken Davison; runners up Graham Walker, Alec Small and John Kane; doubles winners John Janney and Peter Scarsdale; doubles runners up Sue Stubley and Graham Osborn; three woods winner Alan Bancroft and runner up Graham Osborn; women’s four woods winner Kate Wright and runner up Sue Stubley; four woods winner John Kane and runner up Alec Small; novice cup winner Peter Scarsdale and runner up Linda Westwood; president’s cup winner Graham Osborn; Taylor’s cup winner Peter Scarsdale; over sixties shield winner Peter Scarsdale and the captain’s/chairman’s shield winner Bernard Pixsley.

At the club’s annual meeting, Kate Wright was elected chairman, John Janney vice-chairman, Sue Stubley secretary and Richard Lenton treasurer.

The new season will start on Tuesday, April 19, when members extend a welcome to anyone interested in trying their hand at playing bowls or just going along to watch.

Hopefully, they will be able to enjoy a leisurely afternoon relaxing in the summer sunshine while the more energetic visitors are introduced to playing the game by members, who are happy to share their expertise with them.

Fashion - A fashion show and clothes sale by SOS Charity Fashion Shows takes place in the village hall on Friday.

Major high street brands will be at rock-bottom prices and credit cards are accepted.

Tickets for the event cost £5 from Lyn on 01507 568651 and the village post office, or just turn up and pay on the door.

Doors open at 7pm and there will also be a raffle and wine bar.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Friends of St Helen’s Church.
