District news from Louth and the surrounding areas

Tetney WI recently met and opened with the singing of Jerusalem.

The roll call was ‘Flowers I would like to receive’ and apologies were from Jean Mumby, Irene Wilkinson and Pat Gardner.

Veronica Rawlinson and Jean Spenser both had birthdays in February and received birthday cards.

Joy Chafor read a poem entitled “Where to go”.

President Phyllis Crowson reminded members that subscriptions were due , it was the last meeting for ‘Pennies for friendship’ and that the next meeting is the AGM.

Members were invited to join the committee.

Forthcoming events included the Annual Meeting for North Lincs Federation in Skegness on March 9, knit and natter on February 22 and lunch at St Andrew’s Hospice on February 10.

The speaker at the March meeting is Kerry from Holton le Clay who will tell all about hedgehog care.

North Somercotes Group News - The next group meeting will be at Tetney on March 16 when Di Smith will demonstrate 100 years of the WI with flowers. Tickets are £4.

Phyllis then introduced Terri Ashby, who gave a talk and demonstration called ‘Lotions and Potions.’

She made body scrub, gardeners’ lavender hand cream, vanilla extract, herb vinegars and strawberry vinegar which members all sampled.

She was very interesting and gave out recipes to try them for ourselves.

Ann Wright gave the vote of thanks. Ann Wright organised the social half hour, a playing card bingo, won by Jean Burgess, Shirley Pexman and Ann Deeks, while Eunice Goodhand served tea helped by Kathleen Spencer.

Flower of the month was won by Marilyn Brooks and the runner-up was Eunice Goodhand.

The competition, a small flower ornament, was won by Sally Marshall and the runner-up was Marilyn Brooks.

A raffle was held and the meeting closed.

Withern

Work has finally started on refurbishment of Withern Village Hall, thanks to grants from Lincolnshire County Council and East Lindsey District Council, and additional funding from The Garfield Weston Foundation and Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation.

The art group and sewing group are currently holding sessions in the Methodist Church.

IWA BRANCH, LOUTH

Louth chocolatier and businesswoman Lindsay Gardner from Spire Chocolates helped Louth International Women’s Association members discover and appreciate the exquisite world of chocolate at the latest IWA meeting on Friday, February 5.

Lindsay’s expertise and passion for chocolate was evident as she covered the different grades and origins of chocolate, how it is made, the difference between chocolate makers and chocolatiers, ethics in the industry, and even the health benefits of chocolate.

Members savoured delicious samples from award-winning Cleethorpes chocolate maker Duffy’s and Lindsay’s own creations from Spire Chocolates, including her punchy raspberry and delectable salted praline creations.

The event was followed by a light meal, as well as the opportunity for members to speak with Lindsay one-to-one.

Louth IWA are proud to celebrate and support local businesswomen like Lindsay.

Offering a wide range of handmade chocolates as well as bespoke orders and even chocolate alpacas, Spire Chocolates combines the finest Belgian chocolate with the best national produce available.

Whenever possible Lindsay uses tasty local treasures such as local honey, and maple syrup from Lincolnshire suppliers.

Theddlethorpe

To support their current curriculum theme ‘Mud, Mess and Mixtures’, Janet Schooley of Muddy Products has been working with the Caterpillar, Tawny Owl and Barn Owl classes from the Saltfleetby CE and Theddlethorpe Primary School Federation.

Janet is an artist who works with organic and recycled materials.

Together with Janet, the children have created sculptures using mixtures of mud, armatures and process.

The children are soon to exhibit their work along with other amazing art in their own ‘pop up’ galleries.

Alford

The artist of the month currently on show at the Alford Craft Market Centre is Alison Bunning of Feltabulous.

View some of her products at the craft market at 1 West Street in the town on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Fridays and Saturday from 10am-4pm.
