Dogs and cats have day thanks to vets’ campaign

Give a Stray a Christmas Dinner is part of the Britsh Veterinary Association’s national campaign and has been running at Fenwold Vets for 27 years.

Large quantities of dog and cat food were collected at Fenwold’s Skegness, Spilsby and Mablethorpe branches for distribution to local charities to feed animals needing forever homes during the busy Christmas and New Year period.

Among the charities supported were Cats Protection Skegness, Spilsby and Alford, Keith’s Rescue Dogs and Fen Bank Greyhound Sanctuary.
Keith Barrand, a vet at Skegness, said: “The staff at Fenwold and the recipient charities would like to thank all those who contributed to this year’s campaign, with particular thanks to the staff and students of Skegness Academy for a very large contribution to the Skegness branch campaign.”

Keith Smith, of Keith’s Rescue Dogs, said the donations were very gratefully received at the kennels and foster homes caring for their dogs.

“We have between 55 and 60 dogs at the moment - some fostered and others in kennels,” he said.

“The donations were shared between them and were very gratefully received. 
“We close down for Christmas as it is a quieter time of year. It generally starts to get busy at the end of February, when novelty of getting a new puppy for Christmas wears off.

“That’s when we need the ost help.”

Keith’s Rescue Dogs charity is in its 20th year and has a charity shop iin Lumley Road, Skegness, “We would welcome donations of clothes, bric a brac and unwanted Christmas presents and, of course, supportthe public to support our shop so we can help more dogs.”.
