The newly formed wind band, based at Tattershall Primary School, offers young brass and woodwind players the opportunity to join, rehearse and perform together as a junior band at a weekly after school club lead by music teacher David Chambers.

There are currently between 25 and 30 children from five different schools at each rehearsal and they also collaborate with students from QEGS Horncastle and Barnes Wallis Academy.

They have already performed at a concert at Tattershall Primary School alongside Horncastle Strings, with West Street Jazz at QEGS and at Tattershall carol concert, and are currently rehearsing for the Schools’ Prom 2016 at the Skegness Embassy on July 8.

“We aim to provide an opportunity for the children to play in an ensemble and perform together beyond their weekly music lessons,” said Mr Chambers.

“This enables the children to build up a larger playing repertoire and broaden their musical experiences

“It provides challenge for the more experienced players from the primary schools and gives them the opportunity to perform with more experienced musicians from the secondary schools, who also act as role models to which they will aspire in the future.

“We also aim to provide our local young people in the communities of Tattershall and Coningsby with a musical opportunity they would otherwise not benefit from.

“We aim to be accessible to all and currently offer all rehearsals at no charge.“
