Doncaster drink and drug supporters group celebrate sixth anniversary

A Doncaster-based support group, which provides vital support to people coping with a loved one's drinking or drug problems, has celebrated its sixth anniversary.

The Support 4 Change Carers’ Group is run by staff from Aspire Drug and alcohol Service and meets at Rosslyn House, Thorne Road, on Monday evenings, 6.45pm to 8.45pm, and Saturdays noon to 2pm.

Group members joined together for a cuppa and a slice of cake specially made for the occasion, sharing stories, and talking about their experiences to celebrate the occasion.

Group Coordinator Sandra Hardy said: “This is a significant milestone for everyone who has been supported by our group.

“When we started out we knew there was a need for something like this in Doncaster, but were unsure how well it would be attended, as people can feel uncomfortable talking about their loved one’s problems.

“We’ve gone from strength to strength, providing people with a safe place to meet others in the same situation and share their thoughts and feelings.”

Support 4 Change provides a range of interventions for adults aged 18 and over, including peer support, one-to-one psychological therapies, group therapy and social activities to encourage social inclusion within the Doncaster Community. People can just go along to a meeting, or can ring a member of the Support 4 Change team for a confidential chat first on (01302) 730956.

Aspire Drug and Alcohol Service is a partnership between, Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) and The Alcohol and Drug Service (ADS).
