Doncaster set for vibrant floral display

Last spring, the council sowed wild flowers in several high-profile locations around the town centre, with the plants lasting until winter.

The flowers proved so popular with local residents that the council has decided to introduce the idea across Doncaster, and now they will be seen sprouting in many more areas of the town.

Central beds on some of Doncaster’s key town-centre roads, including Leger Way and White Rose Way, were transformed last summer by the plants, and residents commented in their droves about how much colour and life the flowers brought to the area.

This positive public reaction played a key role in the council’s decision to increase the amount of planting in other areas, and residents can now look forward to increasing colour in many locations across Doncaster including certain roundabouts, central reservations and roadsides.

Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Councillor Joe Blackham, said: “The wild flowers proved really popular last year, and we enjoyed hearing such positive comments from local people about the idea. I’m pleased that this year we are able to expand the planting to include other areas, and hope that the flowers add a bit of colour to people’s days.”

Sowing of the seeds has already started and the flowers should begin to show by mid-July.

There are a many locations where flowers will be sown including: Leger Way near Town Moor Golf Club, central reservation along White Rose Way and near the new railway bridge, central reservation through Hickleton, A638 central reservation, central reservation towards A1/Wakefield boundary, central reservation in Highfields and Warmsworth roundabout.
