The step follows a ram-raid at the Market Place store in the early hours of Thursday, September 29 when a tractor demolished the front of the Market Place store as bungling crooks tried and failed to grab the cashpoint (ATM).

The minibus launched today (Monday) and runs every two hours between 9.30am-2.30pm.

It will take customers to Bourne until October 14 and then switch to Billingborough, which has had a £400,000 makeover.

The Donington store has been closed since the end of last month and the courtesy coach – which operates on a first come first served basis – will operate in addition to the Co-op pop-up shop behind the Black Bull pub.

The pop-up shop is serving the community with more than 100 everyday essentials.

Co-op area manager Simon Taylor, said: “Courtesy coaches have proved popular where we have used them elsewhere, in particular with members of the community without access to transport, and so we are keen to trial the service in Donington until we can re-open the Co-op for the community.”

• Further information about the minibus service is available from staff at the Co-op pop-up shop in Donington.
