It was a double win at the Talent for Care awards for Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLaG).

Nineteen-year-old Chloe Grimshaw, from Scunthorpe, scooped the advanced/higher apprentice of the year award while NLaG picked up the employer award.

The event, run by Health Education Yorkshire and the Humber, was held during National Apprenticeships week.

Chloe completed a level two apprenticeship in business administration before securing a full time post working in the recruitment department Scunthorpe hospital and is currently completing level three as part of the role.

Speaking after her win she said: “I am delighted to have won this award. My apprenticeship has helped me get my foot in the door and I now look forward to a long career with the NHS.”

Paul Bunyan, recruitment manager, nominated Chloe for the award. He said: “Chloe has a phenomenal ability to manage a complex workload at a young age and is constantly working beyond what she is required to do. She demonstrates extraordinary levels of adaptability in her approach to her work and holds the team at the heart of all that she does.

“Her success with the Trust highlights just how apprentices have a positive impact on businesses and these young workers can help breathe new life in to the teams they work with. She is so deserving of this award.”

The Talent for Care awards seek to recognise organisations that have embraced the use of apprenticeships. Since January 2013 the Trust has taken on more than 60 apprentices, with many going on to secure full time employment within the Trust.

Dr Neil Pease, director of organisational development and workforce, added: “As a Trust we are committed to supporting and developing our local workforce, and apprenticeships are a great way for young people to get their foot on the first rung of the career ladder.

“Apprentices are fast becoming a vital part of our workforce, bringing with them enthusiasm, fresh ideas and bags of energy.”

All the Trust’s apprenticeship vacancies are advertised on the NHS jobs website at www.jobs.nhs.uk
