Downpour fails to dampen spirits

Organiser Denny Foster said the event was hit by torrential rain but everyone carried on regardless and charities enjoyed a successful day, withstalls stretched out along High Street.

Denny said everyone took cover beneath gazebos but there was still a good atmosphere.

She said: “The rain was really heavy but stopped in time for the duck race. We thought we would be able to hold it in the street instead of the Beck, there was so much water.”

The entertainers were brought indoors, with singers from Frozen in the Methodist Church where there was a Queen’s birthday celebration. The Roundelay Singers and Sleaford Ukulele Band played in the Winchelsea Centre.

Stall holders were so pleased a Christmas event is to be planned for December 3.

Things dried up for the afternoon when focus switched to the Winchelsea School field, where all the Ruskington schools took part. Volunteer groups and local shops also joined in, said headteacher Helen Duckett. There were games such as Splat a Rat and children showcased their music and dance skills performing in the hall.
