Drink driver avoids jail

A DRINK-DRIVER caught on the road without a licence and without insurance has avoided prison.

Christopher Stokes, 26, from Kennel Cottages, Serlby, was stopped by police on the 27th May on the A638 North Road, Torworth, after drinking ‘a few cans of beer’.

Worksop magistrates heard how he had just completed a two-year driving ban in January and was waiting for his licence to return.

Mr Hatfield, defending, said Stokes was driving home after visiting a distressed friend in Retford: “He was foolish enough to hop in the car. He accepts the situation.”

Magistrates sentenced Stokes to 120 days in prison suspended for 12 months, 100 hours unpaid work and banned him from the road for three years.
