Drink driver banned for a year

A CLOWNE mum-of-three who ‘took a chance’ and drove after a night out drinking was caught over the limit.

Chesterfield magistrates heard that police received a tip-off about a suspected drink-driver at 1.45am.

They stopped a Vauxhall Astra driven by Kelly Newbury in Hollin Hill Road, Clowne, to check her condition and she smelled of alcohol.

Newbury, 30, failed a breathalyser test and went on to give a reading of 126mgs of alcohol in 100mls of urine, the limit being 107mgs.

Newbury, of Rhodes Cottages, admitted drink-driving on 3rd December. She had no previous convictions.

Presiding magistrate Peter Greaves fined her £115, with £85 costs, and imposed a one-year road ban, to be cut to nine months if she passes a drink-driving rehabiltation course.

“She had been for an evening out with a friend and would normally leave her car and get a taxi home, but unfortunately no taxis were available on this occasion,” said Phil Bloore, for Newbury.

“The two ladies would have been walking alone at night in the vicinity so she took a chance and drove, and was caught,”
