Drink driver gets banned

A CRESWELL woman who crashed into a hedge bottom had drunk more than double the legal limit, a court heard.

Police on patrol at 12.45am on 28th April saw a Skoda Fabia driven by Vicki Whiteley run off Hennymoor Lane, Whitwell.

“She said she was taking her boyfriend to accident and emergency because he had hurt his arm,” Becky Mahon, prosecuting, told magistrates at Chesterfield.

Officers noticed that Whiteley, 24, smelled of alcohol. She was arrested after failing a roadside breath test.

The court heard she went on to give a reading of 79mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath, the limit being 35mcgs.

Whiteley, of John Street, Creswell, admitted drink-driving and driving without insurance and a full licence.

“It was a drunken mistake and I apologise for it. I’ve not done it before and obviously it’s going to be the first and last time,” she said.

She was banned from driving for 20-months and fined £235, with £85 costs.
