Drink driver is banned

A CLOWNE grandad was almost double the limit when he drove away from a club, a court heard.

Police saw a Volkswagen Passat, driven by Ivan Hadfield, leave the Liberal Club car park at 3.40pm on 13th April.

They stopped the car and asked Hadfield, 62, of Westlea, if he had been drinking.

“He said he had had three and a half pints of lager,” said Becky Mahon, prosecuting.

Hadfield failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. He went on to give a reading of 63mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath, the limit being 35mcgs.

He admitted drink-driving at Chesterfield Magistrates Court.

He was fined £392, with £85 costs, and banned from driving for 17 months.
