Drink-driving campaign is online hit

NOTTS County Council has been using a social network sites to hammer home the Government’s annual drink drive message – with great success.

An advert on its Facebook page has been viewed more than 43,500 times in less than a week.

The ad delivers a simple message to the county: ‘Don’t be an idiot – don’t drink and drive. Your next round might cost you more than you think – find out what the consequences are...’

In addition to the 43,500-plus views, more than 250 people have then progressed to the county council’s website to read more about the consequences.

It is supporting the Government’s national Think! campaign which aims to cut the number of deaths on the roads caused by drink-driving.

It aims specifically to raise awareness of the consequences of drink drive; reduce the number of young men aged 17-29 who are drink-driving and contribute to a county-wide reduction in the number of road traffic accidents recorded as ‘driver impaired by alcohol’.

Young men aged between 17 and 29 are consistently over-represented in drink-drive casualty figures, say campaigners, and are more likely to admit to driving over the legal limit when unsure if they’re over the limit.

The council’s campaign also includes a series of local radio adverts, posters in prominent positions across the county and Twitter updates throughout the festive period.
