Drunk man had cleaver in the street

Police were called after a Worksop man took to the streets with a meat cleaver, a court heard.

John Colin Tindall, 41, of Sandy Lane, took the cleaver from his former partner’s home on 28th September. Concerned for his safety his family called the police. Officers found him without the cleaver, which was later recovered.

David Verity, defending, said he had been drinking all day as it was his daughter’s 16th birthday. “There is no suggestion of him waving the cleaver around,” he said.

Tindall, who admitted possessing an offensive weapon, was given a 12 month community order with 120 hours of unpaid work. He was also ordered to pay £85 court costs.
