E-fit released to trace Bawtry New Year attacker

POLICE have released an e-fit showing a likeness of the man who is thought to have assaulted Iain Eldridge in Bawtry on New Year’s Day.

Acting Det Chf Insp Steve Whittaker, who is leading the investigation said: “The e-fit should help jog peoples’ memories. Does this image look familiar? Do you think you may have seen this man in Bawtry on New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day or have you seen him anywhere since?”

Iain, 35, of Auckley, Doncaster, remains in a critical condition in Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital after sustaining a serve head injury in an unprovoked attack.

He was attacked just after midnight on Sunday 1st January, in Station Road, Bawtry, after leaving the Penny Farthing pub with his girlfriend.

Police will be out in force in Bawtry this Sunday - the week anniversary of the incident - talking to members of the public and asking questions, in a bid to gain further information.

The suspect is described as a white man, of a stocky build. He is thought to be in his late 20s to early 30s and has short blond hair.

Mr Whittaker said: “I’m appealing for anyone with information to please come forward.”

“Think about what Iain’s family are going through. What if this was your son, brother or father?”

He urged New Year revellers to think back to that night and who they saw around the pubs.

“Were you out in Bawtry? Did you take any photos that may help us?” he said.

“The man fled the scene down Station Road towards Austerfield. Were you in this area? Did you see a man running this way in the early hours of New Year’s Day?”
