East Midlands: Region enjoys strongest job growth across UK
The recovering property market has driven a significant rise in construction jobs as vacancies rose by 15 per cent in the past quarter, whilst other strong performing sectors in East Midlands included engineering, manufacturing and utilities, where job vacancies increased by 22 per cent year-on-year.
Dominic Harvey, regional director of East Midlands for totaljobs.com, says: “It’s fantastic to see that the East Midlands is one of the strongest performing labour markets in the UK and today’s statistics are reflective of the continuing drop in regional unemployment rates.
The Barometer, which analyses the behaviour of 5.9 million British jobseekers and 5,000 recruiters, also found that competition for roles in the East Midlands is declining with a drop of two per cent in applications per job year-on-year. The East Midlands was followed closely by Yorkshire with a 16 per cent rise in job vacancies. Other big winners included jobseekers in Wales, the North West, the North East, and East Anglia, which saw job opportunities jump 12 per cent.
