Easter crash brings number of fatalities on Lincolnshire roads this year to 18

Two people died and two others were seriously injured in a collision on the A15 near Cranwell shortly after 10am yesterday (Monday).

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said the collision took place approximately half a mile south of the Cranwell turning and involved a green Volkswagen Golf travelling towards Sleaford and a silver Vauxhall Astra going towards Lincoln.

She said: “Sadly, the driver of the Golf, a local man aged 63, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a woman aged 58, received serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

“The driver of the Astra, a local man aged 63, was seriously injured and is currently in hospital. His passenger, a local woman aged 59, sadly died shortly after the collision.”

She went on: “Close relatives have been informed but wider family are still in the process of being contacted. As such, we are not yet in a position to be able to release names of the deceased.”

This brings the total number of deaths on Lincolnshire’s roads to 18 so far this year, compared to six at the same point in 2015.

The road was closed for nearly eight hours while emergency services, followed by crash investigators were on the scene. Fire crews from Sleaford, Billinghay and Metheringham were involved in cutting three of the casualties from the wreckage.

The Serious Collision Team are appealing for any witnesses who saw the green VW Golf or the silver Astra travelling prior to the collision.
