ELDC advises residents ahead of strike action next week

Unison, the trade union, has rejected a one per cent pay offer made to local government workers across the country, and other unions may join the action.

Unison have said that their strike action is being taken because the “insulting” one per cent pay offer does not keep pace with price increases, and effectively results in a pay cut for most local government workers.

ELDC says that while the council will do all it can to reduce service disruption on October 14, there may still be some.

With regards to waste collection, ELDC advises the following:

• Residents who usually have a Tuesday refuse or recycling collection are advised to put their bin out as usual.

• If your bin isn’t collected on the Tuesday, leave it out and it will be collected as soon as possible. The Council will be collecting waste on Saturday if necessary.

• The Council will know which rounds haven’t been completed so there isn’t a need to report it to the Council if your bin isn’t collected. Wednesday collections will be as normal.
