ELDC Councillors discuss caravan site charges

Caravan site operators in East Lindsey should be charged for inspections and the issue of licences, according to district councillor George Horton.

Last Wednesday, Coun Horton told a full meeting of the district council: “This would raise money for the authority, probably in the region of a million a year.”

In response, Portfolio Holder for Finance Coun Nick Guyatt said: “The council does already charge for its caravan licensing work, but it is restricted by legislation on the level of charge that can be levied.

“Such charges must be on a cost-recovery basis only and cannot be used to generate additional income for the council.”
