Vice-chair of the board of governors George Webb said: “I became a governor at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals when it became a Foundation Trust 11 years ago and since then I have seen governors bring all manner of skills to the role. The role continues to grow and change and governors are becoming involved in additional activities, offering input at an earlier stage.

“The most important part of being a governor is to hold the Board of Directors to account and give the public a voice in discussions about their local hospitals. The role is very rewarding, especially when you see how your input has contributed to improvements in patient care.

“If you want to apply your skills and time to an active role in your local hospitals then please consider standing as a governor.”

You do not need any special qualifications to become a governor, all we ask for is enthusiasm and a desire to help improve patient care. We need governors who will put forward their own views and the views of those who have voted. As a governor, you will also need to commit time to attend the Annual Members Meeting and four Board of Governors’ meetings a year.
