Elkesley: Ten fire engines tackling railway sleeper blaze

Fire crews are dealing with a huge blaze at a railway sleeper yard at Elkesley this afternoon (Saturday 31st August 2013).

Smoke from the scene, at Nottingham Sleeper Company on Jockey Lane, can be seen for miles around.

Fire engines from Worksop, Retford, Elkesley, Tuxford, Mansfield, Edwinstowe, Newark and Collingham descended on the site at 3pm.

The latest update from the fire service is that ten crews are currently using five water jets to tackle the fire which comprises a large quantity of railway sleepers, two lorries and metal containers.
