Craig Elliott described Jake Wright's injury as a 'massive blow', revealing the Boston United striker he was due to lead the line for the club's crunch clash at Chester on Saturday.

The Pilgrims attacker - who has already been sidelined with a torn hamstring and suffered a shoulder injury during a frustrating campaign - left last night's Lincs Senior Cup final on a stretcher and wearing a precautionary neck brace following a collision which left him unconscious.

The York City loanee had regained consciousness before leaving the turf at Lincoln City's LNER Stadium and was sat up but 'groggy' in the changing room following the 1-0 defeat to Cleethorpes Town.

He may now face another lengthy spell on the sidelines. Former teammate Alex Penny was ruled out of action for 19 days earlier this campaign after suffering a concussion.

Prior to kick off, Wright had been told he was due to start the cup final, as well as the upcoming National League North matches against Chester and Darlington.

"It's a massive blow. As a player I had big hopes for him for the end of the season. Before he got injured you could see he was playing well," Elliott said.

"I thought he'd kick on and do well. I spoke to him before the game and I told him he'd start the next three matches, I wanted to give him that consistency and confidence, to understand he'd get three matches to try to get on a run."

Elliott also said he was 'thankful' to the Owls players and medical team for their work in helping Wright.

However, he was scathing of their players after losing the county cup final following Jon Oglesby's second-half winner.

"I'm embarrassed to be honest. I've got a big job on my hands, unexpectedly.

"Sometimes you see it coming. But we've lost one game in 11 and to put a performance in like that is embarrassing really.

"Some players are going through the motions, there's no doubt about that."
