A spokesman for the force said the boy – who is of primary school age – was riding his bicycle along Longview Terrace. The car, a silver Volkswagen Golf, had been heading along Sutton Terrace towards Melbourn Terrace, the spokesman said. The driver did not stop following the collision, they added.

The boy was taken to hospital with ‘serious’ injuries after the collision, the force said. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-altering, it added. A 27-year-old man from Boston was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving causing serious injury, and drug driving.

He was also subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving without a full driving licence and driving while uninsured. He has been released on bail.

Anyone who has information that could help the investigation is asked to email [email protected] quoting Incident 441 of June 6.
